Service with a smile.

Model Earthlings who seem to be too happy with their jobs:

7. The occasional happy cabbie - They're happy, talkative, cool-tempered cab drivers with a sense of humor. These cabbies will even thank you before you get out of the car.

6. The happy waiter at Lola Ina's Restaurant, Seaside, Macapagal Highway - He goes beyond the call of duty to make sure that every customer in the restaurant has his/her orders done right and delivered to the table on time, water glasses filled, bowls for discarded shells emptied, etc. His motherly nature makes me wonder if he's gay.

5. Ace - He's one of the security guards stationed in the lobby downstairs (Rufino Building). He scrambles at the sight of anybody he knows who works in the building to hold the elevators for him/her. The photo in his ID shows a younger Ace wearing an army beret, and he smiles and greets people all the time -- even when it's not the Christmas season. He doesn't want to be called "Manong;" he wants to be called "Ace."

4. "Smiley" (the MAPSA stationed at one of the small intersections in Dela Rosa St,, Makati City) - Kinda hard to believe that this Yellow Smurf never seems to carry a ticketing booklet and there's just this peaceful smile on his face whenever he's standing there, happily directing traffic. He even smiles at the drivers.

3. "Manong Guard ng Union" (the security guard formerly stationed in Unionbank Rufino Branch) - He greeted customers with a 'Good Morning, Ma'am / Sir' upon entrance and a 'Thank You, Ma'am / Sir' upon exit. Not only that, he greeted with a warm smile, like all the customers were friends. He also sold great-tasting polvoron on the side. Too bad he got transferred to the Unionbank branch across, and disappeared after a couple of months. I bumped into him at the Dela Rosa Walkway one time and he still recognized me.

2. "Smiley Guard" (the security guard stationed in Greenbelt 3 basement parking near Linea Italia) - He smiles all the time and looks a cross between the happy MAPSA mentioned in No. 4 and billiards champ Efren "Bata" Reyes. His trademark line: "Good Evening, Ma'am / Sir. Welcome to Ayala Center. Pakibukas lang po ng bag. Pasensya na po."

1. JunBoy Leonor -
The Dawn's drummer since the band started in the early 80's. There's just this I-am-just-sooo-happy look on his face when he's beating the 'ol thin cans, a closed-eyes-smile that makes you smile back subconsciously even when you're getting sick of Jett Pangan belting out "Salamat..."
